The responsibilities of the above department include in particular the following:

1a. The Legal Service Department is an independent service and reports directly to the Rector.

2a. The Legal Service Department handles the legal cases of the University of West Attica before the court and out of court with a written order of the President which serves as a power of attorney. It defends competently the rights and interests of the University of West Attica. It monitors the progress of cases that, on its proposal or with its consent, have been assigned by the Senate of the University of West Attica to external lawyers and it legally guides, upon request, the services of the University of West Attica. The employees of the services and the bodies of the University of West Attica are obliged to provide the information that is necessary to the Legal Service Department for the defense of the cases, as well as provide in writing the (real) history of the case.

b. The Legal Service Department voices an opinion on questions raised by the Rector. Questions can be asked, through the Rector, by the bodies of the Institution as well as by the services or the academic units. The Rector forwards these questions to the Legal Service Department, if he deems that they are valid or necessary to be investigated. Any opinion of the Legal Service Department, if approved by the Rector, must be implemented by the services and all kinds of bodies of the University of West Attica.

3a. The Legal Service Department is staffed by lawyers who hold a permanent position and by administrative employees who serve at the University of West Attica. It can also be staffed for full-time or part-time employment by full or part-time teaching staff of the University of West Attica as long as they are lawyers. In such cases, on the proposal of the Head of the Legal Service, the opinion of the Assembly of the Department and the decision of the Senate of the University of West Attica, they are assigned special duties and in particular the preparation of legal documents and cases, in the framework of the operation of the Legal Service Department.

b. The Head of the Legal Service Department is the longest serving employee according to the time of appointment, who holds a permanent position of a lawyer at the University of West Attica or the longest serving lawyer in case of simultaneous appointment. His alternate, when he does not exist, is absent or disabled, is the longest serving employee in order.

c. The Head of the Legal Service Department reports and is under the authority of the Rector and is responsible for the organization and operation of the service and its staff.

4. Employees of the University of West Attica serve in the Secretariat of the Legal Service Department in any connection. The number of employees is determined by the decision of the President, following the opinion of the Head of the Legal Service Department.

5. The orders of the previous paragraphs are valid until the operation of the Judicial Office of the Legal Council of the State at the University of West Attica, provided by article 6 of Law 4521/2018.
